Carsten Wieland

  • After a good 20 years as a freelancer in the fields of illustration, comics and computer game design, Carsten Wieland decided in 2011 to turn his back on commercial graphics and from now on to deal with artistic design purely out of passion.

After spending several years in 3D photography, he rediscovered watercolor painting in 2015 and has since created hundreds of watercolors. The hobby quickly developed into more and so Wieland began giving watercolor workshops, writing books on the subject of watercolor, producing demo videos and, in addition to a few solo exhibitions, taking part in numerous exhibitions in Europe and overseas.

Carsten finds his motifs in his surroundings, but above all in his memories. In particular, the old and abandoned houses that he discovered while traveling through the USA have become a recurring motif in his watercolors. The artist does not focus on the detailed reproduction of what has been seen, but on the reinterpretation, in which the original motif only provides the impetus for the creative process.

Since 2018, Carsten can also be seen at various watercolor festivals in Europe, where he inspires the specialist audience at painting demonstrations, where he demonstrates his very individual watercolor technique.
