Shahnaz has been painting in a variety of mediums including oil, water, pastel and charcoal. She is a graduate of Punjab University in Fine Arts (1968) where her interest was mostly in nature and landscapes amplified with vibrant colouration. She is now a versatile artist, who has experimented with combining realism & abstract with intriguing results.

By painting architectural work of the Mughal era, she gives a new life to the cultural heritage of historic buildings and sites of India and Pakistan by presenting them as her dreamy visualization. Her paintings always carry a sense of serene beauty and mystic grandeur.
